Join the ladies as they check out sunny San Juan, Puerto Rico. No passport is required when traveling from the U.S., so the gals hit the ground running. They sampled local food, hiked in a rain forest, swam in a waterfall and even ran in The World’s Best 10k. Come along!
THE PLACES WE VISITED -
Puerto Rico is an island rich with culture, natural beauty and great food. Here are the places we visited during our trip to its capitol city of San Juan:
San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino – our room had a beautiful ocean view and we liked the hotel’s great location. You’re literally on the beach, but a quick ride to Old San Juan and easy highway access for day trips outside the city. The staff was friendly, and there was always something fun going on down in the lobby area. The pool has a waterslide and was also very kid-friendly – a good place for family vacations.
Yerba Buena Restaurant – 1350 ASHFORD AVE. San Juan 00907 (in the Condado Beach area) Phone:787 721-5700. Very friendly staff, live music, inventive menu and fabulous mojitos.
El Yunque National Rainforest – Open from 7:30am – 6pm daily. It’s the only tropical rain forest managed by the U.S. National Forest System.
La Parilla – Luquillo kiosks: Kiosko #2 Carr. #3 – phone: 787.889.0590 email: laparillapr@yahoo.com. Great food and the best piña coladas in Puerto Rico. A little pricey.
Old San Juan – The charming historic center of San Juan with Spanish Colonial era buildings and monuments.
El Morro – 400 year-old Spanish fort in Old San Juan. Sweeping views of the city from atop the fort, and a fun and interesting historical tour inside.
Cafe Coláo – Pier 2 (Ports Terminal), Old San Juan 787.725.4139. Fantastic coffee and they sell locally-grown coffee beans which make a good souvenir. Friendly staff that will tell you all about coffee-growing on the island.
