Galavanting’s free travel guide & video for a NYC Weekend trip

Join the ladies on a whirlwind New York City weekend. Hosts Kim Mance and Maren
Hogan check out everything from sleek and affordable Hotel 41 in Times Square, to
the Jazz Standardspanish tapas, nightlife, hip restaurant Osteria del Circo and
Chinatown. Come for the fun, stay for the great NYC travel tips.

How Much it Costs - New York City can be an expensive place to visit, but we did our
best to pinch some pennies. Here’s a list of the places we went that cost money, and
generally how much:

Hotel 41 – from $149 per night for a standard room; breakfast, cappuccino and Time
Out Magazine
included.

Jazz Standard – $20-$30 cover charge, depending on band. No drink minimum.

Xunta Tapas Bar – from $4-$12 per food item, $25 for a large pitcher of Sangria.

Osteria del Circo – $25 price-fixed lunch menu and $35 for pre/post-theatre price-fixed
menu (cheap compared to similar NYC gourmet situations…)

Ice Rink at Rockefeller Center – Okay, this one wasn’t cheap, and that’s why we said
we “splurged”. But post-Christmas rates are lower, and range from $12 to $16 per
person (weekdays/weekends), plus $8 for skate rental (ouch, that’s pricey!)

Great video, some really nice ideas. I'm always looking for the best hotels New York that people recommend, thankfully there are a large variety of good ones around the whole city.
  • New York, New York. Have been here a few times now and if you want to go on a shopping trip make sure you go the weekend after thanks giving as all the shops have amazing sales and you can get a lot more for your money.
  • hello friend i look this site and there are so more good information!
  • New York which is been called as the "City that never sleeps" have lots of business around its state that's why there are lot of works in there but in some part of New York there are those places that is perfect for weekends and holidays and a lot of vacationist around the world spend their time on that part of New York.
  • Interesting video..
  • New York is a great place to stay especially if you as a vacationist have lots of budget to buy some goodies and renting a hotel that is luxurious. Well to some people that don't have a great amount of budget, they can stay to those specific hotels in New York which is quite cheap and have a discount.
  • In New York city, the lifestyle in that state is really expensive if you will compare it to the other state in the US but there are still cheap services that they offer there like hotels and other entertainment places. One of the hotels that is quite cheap is the Hotel 41.

  • Thanks. I congratulate you for this blog.
I've really enjoyed. I sincerely thank you again.
  • Budget wise, it's great. It's very timely because vacationers want value for their money.
  • I think it is all very interesting. If it is not very expensive with all the best because we're finding good locations. For the rest of the trip with our family.
  • Wonderful video and some great recommendations for hotels, clubs and site seeing! Thanks for the tip on the poop train...definitely don't want to fall for that one.
  • Love the blog!

How do you feel about Chicago as a travel base? O'Hare is a good mid-point but I've been seeing better international deals from the coasts.
  • ramy09
You can relax and see the most of the beautiful places on earth you can visit New York. New York is a town full of excitement and nightlife.
  • footballworldcuptickets
Your hotel travels post is very nice I like your post. You can also get good information and best facilities of Cheap Hotels Deals for travel and you will get all the package of traveling.
  • mandino

I have a friend in new york city and it seems that I have also been traveling there because of his blogs, I don't know if he has posted any pictures in Baraaza.com which I am looking forward to...

  • New York is the best place!! Go New Yorkers!!

  • Really enjoyed this video! It's been 3 years since I was in NYC, and this made me feel like it might be time to go back. Thanks for the info on the hotel--I'm always looking for good referrals on places to stay. It must have been hard to choose what to do for such a short trip; so much city, so little time.

  • Really cool video! The Hotel 41 looks nice. I stayed at the Chelsea Star Hotel last year... A good choice too, even if breakfast wasn't included in the room rate.. .

  • Thanks for watching Laurel...your wish is our command! See above (we've been meaning to add that, thanks for the nudge!).

  • laurel

    Hi Gals,
Thanks for the NYC tips! I wish you had said how much things cost (cover at Jazz Standard, rooms at hotel, meals and drinks) -- that information would make this a lot more helpful. A list of places that you went with prices and links to each would also be a nice sidebar on the site. Glad you had so much fun in the Big Apple!

  • Kim and Maren: You are so cute! I've been to NY about 10 times, and I used to live there for a little while. You guys really captured the essence of the Big Apple. KUDOS!

  • Ashley

I'm hoping for a girls' weekend in NYC later this year, and that hotel looks perfect! What a great city.

  • Haha, Miss Expatria, sounds like you're hard up for an NYC visit...yeah, there was only so much we could fit into one weekend, but hopefully others will copy your list into their itineraries! :)

  • I loved it, but there are so many places I wish you had gone!! But, I think that's just the homesickness talking.

    1. Junior's in Grand Central! A NYC foodie landmark available, without having to go to Brooklyn.
    2. Ess-A-Bagel in the morning! Although I understand the draw of a free breakfast, but you were in NY and did not show a bagel! It could take you half a day to choke down an everything with whitefish salad, which is a food deal if I ever saw one.

    3. Dirty water dogs, as my mom calls them, are awesome - but for the real deals, you gotta go to Papaya King and its brethren. Awesome.

    4. Little India lunch deals!

    5. Dim sum in Chinatown!

I could go on and on.

Clearly, I need to head back to NY for a visit.

  • Nik

Sweet! God damn I should really have visited when I was in the US. I ran out of money ... =/

  • Jennie

New York, here I come! Thanks for making it seem like it would be easy to go there and get around. There is so much to do! Thanks for all the tips.

  • reminiscing about how much i miss that wonderful place... I love New York.
Honey roasted nuts were the best.

  • I've not been to NYC, but this definitely looked like a lot of fun. I'd love the jazz club (love Kravitz and I'll bet the Blackman show was fab) and the street food f'sure.

  • Rachel

Okay, now you have me thinking about going for a weekend in New York. Looks like a lot of fun!
